Nat'l gov't gives P137-B subsidies to GOCCs from Jan. to Sept.

MANILA – The national government's subsidies for government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) amounted to PHP137.1 billion in the first nine months of the year.

Data from the Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) showed that the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) was the biggest recipient of budgetary support amounting to PHP50.6 billion.

The National Irrigation Administration received PHP31.8 billion, second on the list.

The National Housing Authority came in third with subsidies amounting to PHP16.6 billion.

Other top recipient GOCCs include the National Food Authority (PHP6 billion), Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (PHP5 billion), Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PHP4.6 billion), Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PHP3.1 billion), and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (PHP2.9 billion).

For September alone, subsidies to GOCCS, slightly went down to PHP21.2 billion from last year's PHP23.6 billion.

It was, however, higher than the PHP18.9 billion in August this year.

The National Housing Authority received the biggest subsidy amounting to PHP11.1 billion.

Other top recipients include the National Irrigation Administration (PHP2.9 billion), the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PHP2.7 billion), the National Electrification Administration (PHP1.3 billion), and the National Food Authority (PHP1.0 billion). (PNA)
