BACOLOD CITY – A personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Western Visayas (Region 6) has been dismissed while two others are facing administrative charges after testing positive for illegal drug use, the Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 said on Tuesday.

Brig. Gen. Sidney Villaflor, police regional director, said he has signed the dismissal order of one of the three involved police officers while cases of the other two are ongoing.

“One of them did not undergo confirmatory tests anymore, perhaps he already admitted that he was using illegal drugs. The two others still yielded positive results in confirmatory tests,” he added.

Among the three who tested positive is a personnel of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office here.

The PRO-6 has been conducting drug tests among its more than 13,600 organic personnel in the past months.

Through the Philippine Anti-Drug Strategy Fund, Villaflor initiated purchases of 15,000 drug test kits to achieve 100 percent drug-tested organic personnel, have a drug-free workplace, and ensure the commitment to duty and integrity of personnel in the region.

The latest data released by the PRO-6 showed that from Jan. 1 to May 23 this year, a total of PHP88.03 million worth of illegal drugs have been recovered in various operations across the region.

From May 24, when Villaflor took over as PRO-6 chief, until Oct. 31, the recovered illegal drugs totaled PHP185.932 million.

“We cannot win this fight alone. We need the support of other government agencies and communities to topple the ‘supply and demand’ of illegal drugs in the region. Let us do our share in our fight against illegal drugs,” Villaflor added. (PNA)
