COTABATO CITY – The Bangsamoro Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (BLTFRB) issued Friday a new fare matrix for traditional public utility jeepneys (PUJs) across the region to reflect the PHP1 increase.

“The new fare matrix takes effect effective immediately,” Minister Paisalin Tago of the Ministry of Transportation and Communication - Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MOTC-BARMM) said in a statement.

The fare for the first four kilometers for PUJs is now at PHP12 and PHP1.80 for every kilometer thereafter.

The new fare matrix is contained in BLTFRB Board Memorandum Circular No. 010, issued in December 2023, in consonance with the order of the LTFRB national office.

Drivers were reminded to strictly observe the 20-percent discount for senior citizens, students, and persons with disabilities, according to Tago.

Kamarudin Antang, who has been a jeepney driver here for half of his 40 years, welcomed the new rates.

“It may be not huge, but it will surely help us meet both ends daily,” Antang said in the vernacular.

“I hope the prices of petroleum products will be favorable for us this year,” Yokie Salvador, another jeepney driver, said.

Tago also reminded public transport operators to secure LTFRB franchises and licenses to avoid penalties. (PNA)
