MANILA – The company behind the beep card contactless payment system warned that an online promotion offering a 12-month free travel card is “misleading, bogus, and fraudulent.”

In a statement on Monday, AF Payments Inc. (AFPI) chief executive officer JJ Moreno said there is no authorized sale of any Beep cards that offer free rides for 12 months or any similar promotions.

“We urge beep card users and commuters to prioritize safety by being vigilant and refraining from clicking on or subscribing to any suspicious links that could potentially compromise your personal and financial data,” Moreno said.

To avoid such scams, he urged the public to buy beep cards from official outlets such as those at the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1), LRT-2, Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), select convenience stores, and through its online shops at Shopee and Lazada.

“If you have any concerns or come across any questionable activity, please report it to us immediately using our official channels,” he said.
