MANILA – Corrections officials on Wednesday allowed persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) to celebrate Valentine's Day with their jailed loved ones at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.

In a statement, Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) director general Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. said the agency's buses were deployed to ferry PDLs from the CIW in Mandaluyong City to the NBP.

The measure is part of the agency's Valentine's Day celebration themed "Kiss Sabay Hug“ (Kiss with Hugs).

After their visit, the female PDLs would be brought back to the CIW.

Catapang said the usual visitation of PDLs at the NBP and other BuCor-run prison and penal farms are allowed, including conjugal visits.

The CIW also marked its 93rd founding anniversary on Wednesday, with the theme “Empowering People, Improving Lives Towards Building a Law Abiding and Productive Community.”

CIW acting superintendent Daisy Sevilla-Castillote said the highlight of the celebration includes the formal launch of the CIW Cashless System, inauguration of their new administrative building and distribution of food packs, hygiene kits and medicines. (PNA)
