PUERTO PRINCESA, Palawan – Palawan Governor Dennis Socrates is set to be promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Philippine Air Force Reserve Command, the provincial government announced on Thursday.

Currently a major in the PAF reserves, Socrates will officially ascend to the next higher rank.

The governor’s promotion is in compliance with a memorandum issued by Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro dated Feb. 7, 2024, and subsequently approved by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, a statement from the governor’s office disclosed.

It added that Socrates’ advancement in the country’s reserve force is in line with efforts to strengthen coordination between the provincial government and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) amid rising tensions in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

“This appointment brings a notable connection between the provincial government of Palawan and the Philippine Air Force Reserve, highlighting the governor’s dedication to serving not only as a political figure but also contributing to the country’s defense forces,” the statement said.

The Palawan provincial government has jurisdiction over the municipality of Kalayaan, which is situated in seawaters being claimed by both the Philippines and China. (PNA)
