DAVAO CITY – Some 8,415 security personnel will secure the month-long 87th Araw ng Dabaw celebration this month.

In an interview on Monday, Angel Sumagaysay, the head of the Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO), said the bulk of the deployment is for the Parada Dabawenyo and the Mutya ng Dabaw activities.

“The number deployed from March 1 until March 17 is around 7,050 integrated security personnel. Until the last day of March, with those accredited events and private ones that also need deployment, we will have a total of 8,415 personnel,” he said.

He noted that events held in March with special permits were provided with security deployment.

"We also included events which have special mayor's permit and events that gather a large number of people, which also oblige us to add more personnel," Sumagaysay said.

He said the PSSO earlier conducted security coordination meetings with the City Tourism Operations Office onboard to prepare for the Araw events.

The PSSO, as a member of the Araw ng Dabaw Execom, will also be providing updates on security matters during their meetings.

The event will observe the same security measures as in the past, including restrictions on backpacks, large bags, laser lights, firearms, and littering, as well as a ban on bomb jokes.

Bringing sharp objects, drinking alcoholic beverages, and smoking in public places are also prohibited.

Sumagaysay also urged the Dabawenyos not to bring infants and small children during any event, as he also advised the public to take off their jackets and sunglasses upon going through inspection areas.

During the send-off ceremony for deployment on Feb. 29, Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte thanked all the security and safety personnel for their efforts in making the city secure in the coming days. (PNA)
