MANILA – De La Salle University survived University of the East, 25-14, 25-20, 31-29, for its third straight victory in the UAAP Season 86 men’s volleyball tournament at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Wednesday.

Vince Gerard Maglinao had 13 attacks, two blocks, and an ace, while John Mark Ronquillo and Noel Michael Kampton chipped in 13 points each for the Green Spikers, who joined the National University Bulldogs and the Far Eastern University Tamaraws on top at 4-1.

NU cruised to its fourth straight victory at the expense of FEU, 25-22, 21-25, 25-14, 23-25, 18-16.

“Based on UE's previous games, on the third set, they really try to push themselves to win it. Somehow, there was a little control over our ball so we didn't deliver but we were ready for that," La Salle head coach Jose Roque said.

After losing the first two sets, the Red Warriors fought hard in the third set where they even posted a 29-28 advantage.

But UE made three errors that allowed La Salle to claim victory after one hour and 25 minutes.

Joshua Pozas finished with 14 attacks and five digs for the Red Warriors, who remained winless in five matches.

Both teams will be back on Sunday with UE facing defending champion National University at 10 a.m. and La Salle taking on winless University of the Philippines at 12 p.m.

Scheduled to play on Saturday are UST against Ateneo at 10 a.m., Adamson University against Far Eastern University at 12 noon in the men's division, UST against Ateneo at 2 p.m., and Adamson against FEU at 4 p.m. in the women's division. (PNA)
