MANILA – Results of a recent survey showed 2 out of 3 Filipinos support President Rodrigo Duterte’s plan to revamp the government into a revolutionary one, if deemed necessary.
The survey, which was conducted this month by an independent and community-based group called SurveyNgBayan, showed a 70% positive feedback in favor of a revolutionary style of government as a remedy for the country’s most pressing hurdles, such as the illegal drug trade and deficiencies in socio-economic development programs.
A total of 1,264 respondents participated in the text message poll, and answered the question -- “Kung mapipilitang itatag ni DU30 and isang revolution government para matupad ang mga pangako niya, payag ba kayo? (If Duterte is forced to declare a Revolutionary Government to fulfill his promises, would you agree?)”
Out of the randomly-selected and Philippine-registered phone numbers, 891 (70%) responded YES; 322 (26%) said NO while, 51 (4%) had no answer.
Taking into account its 3.6% margin of error, Survey Ng Bayan principal analyst, Dr. Gil Ramos said the positive results are still remarkably high.
“We could deduct 3.63% from 70% YES and arrive at 66% in support of a revolutionary government, and add 3.62 to26% NO and arrive at 30% against declaring a revolutionary government,” said Dr. Ramos adding that even in this “worst case scenario,” there would still be 2 out of 3 Filipinos in favor of the said revolutionary government.
This month’s results reflect a remarkably significant increase from 42% in June 2016, weeks before President Duterte assumed office.
A second round of survey was also conducted in August 2016, where 66% said they were willing to accept a revolutionary government; 28% said they were unwilling; and more than 5% were neutral. (PCOO-DAVAO)
