DAVAO CITY – Davao traders and members of a Taiwanese business group held a one-on-one business matching in Davao City on Thursday to explore possible trade partnerships.

Mindanao Business Council (MinBC) executive director Rolando Torres said the Taiwanese businessmen were on a trade mission for the first time in the Philippines.

The one-day activity was attended by 65 businessmen from Davao and representatives of local and national government agencies. Some of the large local firms attending the Taiwan Trade Meeting here were Anflocor, Cebu Pacific, and RD Fishing.

It was organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO), in coordination with the MinBC.

Torres said there were 200 organized meetings between the businesses, with each company holding seven meetings with their counterparts in Davao.

"They were looking for partners on distributorship scheme and also for direct market selling," he said.

Torres said the Taiwanese businessmen want to explore the market of Mindanao, especially in such sectors as automotive, electronics, agriculture, wellness and medical equipment, and some consumer goods. (Digna D. Banzon/PNA)
