DAGUPAN CITY -- The National Power Corporation (Napocor) and the San Roque Power Corporation (SRPC) have readied the San Roque Dam for the rainy season after the completion of its major rehabilitation.

"We are glad that it (rehabilitation) was already finished before the rainy season starts,” said Napocor spokesperson Maria Odette Rivero during the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkasters sa Pilipinas chapter forum in Pangasinan on Thursday.

Rivero said Napocor and SRPC regularly conduct inspection and gateway testing to ensure the safety of the dam and communities around San Manuel, Pangasinan.

"We do semi-annual dam safety inspection every June and December, while the spillway gate testing is done annually," she noted.

Rivero also allayed worries of some farmers and residents about the possible water supply shortage for irrigation and electricity.

She assured that unlike La Mesa Dam, which dropped to its lowest level according to reports, the water level of San Roque dam is still at its normal level at 238.86 meters above sea level as of 8 a.m. on May 24.

“The water level is within the upper rule term and it is still on the comfortable level of the dam. It would still be sufficient enough to be used for water quality, power generation and irrigation for Pangasinan and Tarlac,” Rivero added. (PNA)
