LEGAZPI CITY -- Police filed murder charges on Wednesday night against the suspect in the fatal shooting of Judge Ricky Begino of San Jose-Lagonoy Camarines Sur Metropolitan Circuit Trial Court (MCTC).

Police Senior Inspector Bernardo Peñero, Presentacion town police chief, said police probers, following a thorough investigation, have filed murder charges against Wilfredo Armea before the Naga City Prosecutors’ Office in Naga City.

City Prosecutor Joyceri Fabi Catorse was tasked to handle the case of the slain judge, Peñero said in a phone interview on Thursday.

The City Prosecutors’ Office gave the 72-year-old Armea 10 days to submit a counter-affidavit on the murder charges filed against him.

Armea, a distant relative of Begino, reportedly shot the judge near his house in Presentacion, Camarines Sur on June 12.

Begino was rushed to the town’s Rural Health Unit and later transferred to the Naga Imaging Center Cooperative Doctors Hospital (NICC) in Naga City, but was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians.

Police said Armea surrendered after he was tracked down by the authorities. (PNA)
