EL NIDO, Palawan -- Social Security System (SSS) President and Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel Dooc on Monday personally issued show cause orders to the allegedly non-compliant proprietors of nine establishments as part of its intensified Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) campaign.

Investigation showed that out of the nine non-compliant employers, eight were found guilty for non-registration of business and one for non-remittance of contributions, Dooc, who arrived here early morning said.

The employers guilty for non-registration were Scene Onsight (SOS) Restaurant, Amos Restaurant, Casa Carlota Pension, El Grande Tourist Inn, Mando Mango Inn, Island Hop Nido Hostel, Ristorante La Lupa and Villa Dali Island Inc.

Meanwhile, Caera Travel and Tours with P71, 736.17 in total delinquency is guilty for non-remittance.

Dooc was supposed to lead the issuance of show cause orders to 14 establishments in the municipality, which is known as a popular tourist destination, but four managed to comply at the last minute.

“We chose El Nido because it represents a fast developing progressive community that needs to be reminded of their obligation to SSS and to their employees,” Dooc said.

The allegedly delinquent employers are being ordered to explain their non-compliance with SSS regulations within a non-extendable period of 15 days. Failure to comply could subject them to criminal prosecution, which may lead to steep fines and even prison time.

“What will happen here is we will not close the establishments. What we will do is to enforce collection or we will file cases against them. Not remitting funds or contributions to the SSS is a criminal liability,” Dooc added.

SSS Puerto Princesa Acting Branch Head Abdultalib Abirin said out of 416 SSS-registered businesses only nine have not been compliant. The number of establishments covers over 1,000 employees. "We still don’t have the new figure from the one-stop-shop,” he said indicating that there may be more establishments here than earlier recorded. (PNA)
