MANILA -- The country’s largest business organization, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), called on its membership to put their views on the proposed shift to a federal form of government on the table.

PCCI President Alegria Sibal-Limjoco on Monday said it is vital for entrepreneurs, particularly the small or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to know the potential impact of federalism on their respective businesses.

“The possible shift will entail reforms that would affect the private sector,” Sibal-Limjoco said.

“We are aware of the dread of the organizational change, but also welcome the importance of transformation,” she added.

The PCCI chief noted that it is important that businessmen are adequately prepared for the changes that come with federalism, should it be implemented anytime soon.

The shift to federalism has been a hot topic in the business community since the Duterte administration put the gears in motion towards this change.

The administration sees that decentralizing the system will empower the local government that would be the drivers of their own economic growth.(PNA)
