Davao fishers to get new motorized boats

DAVAO CITY -- Some 10 fishermen will soon get a boost in their livelihood after Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Secretary Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go committed to turn over 10 new fiberglass motorized fishing boats from Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol.

Hiniling ko kay Secretary Manny Piñol na magpabahagi ng 10 motorized fishing boats na magagamit ninyo sa inyong pananagat (I asked Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol to distribute 10 motorized fishing boats that you can use to go out to sea),” Go told around 40 participants of the Bancarera boat race, one of the events of the ongoing Kadayawan Festival.

These boats will be given to 10 deserving local fishermen.

The Bancarera is a regular event held by radio station Bombo Radyo at Times Beach, Matina in this city.

This year, Bombo Radyo asked Go to be a co-sponsor, which he said he readily accepted because he is a water sports enthusiast.

Masaya po ako dahil isa po sa aking paboritong laro ay nasa dagat. Lalong lalo na itong mananagat natin, nakikita natin na pwede pala gawing karera yung bangka (I am happy because one of my favorite sports is in the water. We also see that for our fishermen, they can use their boats in races), ” he said.

Go said the boats will be turned over to 10 deserving local fishermen. For the champion as well as the first and second runners-up, he had a special prize: a free trip to Manila to watch a live game of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

Itong tatlo ipapadala ko sa Manila para makapasyal at manood ng basketball. ‘Yan ang pangako ko (I will send these three winners to Manila so they can go sightseeing and watch a game of basketball. That’s my promise),” he said. (OSAP Media)
