CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — Classes on Monday were suspended in some areas in Central Luzon due to the continuous threat of the southwest monsoon or habagat.
Local government officials in the provinces of Pampanga, Zambales, Tarlac and Bataan declared the suspension to ensure the safety of the students following the latest weather advisory that these areas will experience inclement weather throughout the day.
In Pampanga, classes in the coastal towns of Masantol and Macabebe were suspended in all levels, both in public and private schools.
These two towns were among the municipalities in Pampanga that experienced severe flooding due to the onslaught of tropical storms and monsoon rains the past days and most parts are still under floodwater.
Classes in some schools in the towns of Apalit; San Simon; and Sto. Tomas were also suspended due to the flooded premises.
These are the Paligui Elementary School, Sampaga Elementary School, and Fausto Gonzales Sioco Memorial School in Apalit; the elementary schools in the villages of San Isidro, San Agustin, San Pablo, San Miguel, Sta.Cruz, and Dela Paz in San Simon; and the Sto. Rosario Elementary School Moras Elementary School, Sto. Tomas Elementary/High School in Sto. Tomas town.
In Zambales, classes in all levels for both public and private schools were suspended in the towns of Masinloc; Iba; and Subic.
In Tarlac, classes in all levels for both public and privates were suspended in Camiling town.
On the other hand, classes were suspended from pre-elementary to high school levels for both public and private schools in Tarlac City.
In Bataan, the municipal government of Hermosa declared the suspension of classes in all levels for both public and private schools.
Based on the rainfall warning issued by the state weather bureau as of 7 a.m., the province of Zambales is under orange warning level which means flooding is threatening.
The province of Bataan is under yellow warning level where flooding is expected in low lying areas of the province.
Meanwhile, light to moderate with occasional heavy rains affecting Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac and Nueva Ecija which may persist for 2-3 hours. (PNA)
