ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The government-run Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) has identified 74 inmates of the Zamboanga City Reformatory Center (ZCRC) as beneficiaries of its free surgical mission this month.

Dr. Joji Sese, ZCMC Department of Surgery chairperson, on Tuesday said the free surgical mission is part of the activity of the centennial celebration of the government-owned hospital.

Sese said 44 of the 74 will undergo major operations for hernia and hemorrhoids while the remaining 30 will avail of minor surgery for cyst excision.

However, Sese said 20 of the 44, who will undergo major surgery, have already undergone operations at the ZCMC. The minor surgery will be done at the ZCRC compound.

She said they aim to finish the surgical mission by September, this year. The patients will also receive free medicines as well as laboratory examination.

She said they have prioritized the inmates of the ZCRC to be the beneficiaries of the surgical mission since they have limited access to health care.

This year’s centennial celebration of the ZCMC is anchored on the theme “Cien año de servicio con amor y cariño para na pueblo Zamboangueño (100 year in service with love and care for the city of Zamboanga).” (PNA)
