ILOILO CITY -- Muslims in this city should do good things always.

This was the message of Abdurrahman Macaombao, Imam of the mosque, to the members of the Muslim community in Barangay Magdalo, La Paz district, as they celebrate Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice.

“This Eid’l Adha will not have a value if people will not do good things,” he said in an interview with the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Tuesday.

“They should follow the commandments of Allah, especially us Muslims, because all of us will die,” he added.

Macaombao said Muslims believe the earth, where we live today, is just our temporary home.

“This will not be our permanent home because we have another life after death, an eternal life,” he said.

Eid’l Adha is the second of two Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide annually after Eid’l Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan.

During the celebration of the Feast of Sacrifice, Macaombao said Muslims offer slaughtered animals, such as chicken or goat as sacrifice, which will be distributed to everyone for cooking and will be eaten together.

He said the practice is in honor of Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience but he was given by Allah a lamb to be sacrificed instead of his child.

Macaombao urged his fellow Muslims to never stop praying and worshipping Allah.

He said there are about 2,000 Muslims in this city alone. (PNA)
