Newly-identified drug pusher nabbed in NegOr town

DUMAGUETE CITY – Police operatives arrested a suspected drug pusher during an anti-illegal drugs operation in Ayungon, Negros Oriental on Tuesday evening.

An initial police report from Supt. Kat Ramos of the Negros Oriental police identified the suspect as Mark Calumba Mejica, 29, single, a laborer, and resident of Sitio Lodgoron, Barangay Anibong in Ayungon.

Mejica was arrested at about 7 p.m. by elements of the Ayungon police, headed by Chief Insp. Romeo Cubo, together with provincial police operatives led by Senior Insp. Armel Von Alegria, as they served a search warrant against the suspect.

According to the Ayungon police, the suspect was not on their watch list of suspected drug personalities and is a "newly-identified" personality.

The search warrant was issued by Judge Candelario Gonzales of Regional Trial Court Branch 45 in Bais City, Negros Oriental, dated August 20.

Recovered during the search were a heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing suspected “shabu” (crystal meth), one improvised tooter, and a cellular phone.

The conduct of the search and inventory was witnessed by village chief Eduardo Silvano and councilman Elverito M. Gudio.

The suspect is now detained at the Ayungon police station pending the filing of formal charges against him. (PNA)
