PEÑARANDA, Nueva Ecija – Some 300 marginalized residents in this fourth class municipality of Nueva Ecija have benefited from the livelihood assistance provided by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
DOLE Nueva Ecija Field Office-3 head Maylene Evangelista on Thursday said the beneficiaries are ambulant vendors, female workers, and informal laborers.
Evangelista said the livelihood provision was rolled out to the beneficiaries from all 10 barangays of this town.
“We had to ensure that no barangay was left behind through our close coordination with the local government through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO) as well as its barangay employment and training coordinators,” she said.
The DOLE official said the livelihood provision was distributed in the form of assorted store start-up or enhancement packages worth PHP5,000 for each beneficiary.
She said the local government unit of Peñaranda and PESO provided a counterpart assistance in the form of entrepreneurship development training (EDT) to ensure that beneficiaries will be able to properly manage their small businesses.
The counterpart assistance also includes enrolment and initial payments of social benefit schemes for the beneficiaries such as Social Security System, Pag-IBIG and PhilHealth.
“All livelihood projects will be closely monitored by the PESO in close coordination with the DOLE Nueva Ecija Field Office to ensure its success,” Evangelista said. (PNA)
