ILOILO CITY -- The daily satellite registration conducted by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Iloilo City will end September 18.

After this date, unserved clients are advised to proceed to the Robinsons Place, where a registration will be held September 19 to 29, 2018.

Election Officer II Jonathan Sayno on Thursday said that they have been conducting an off-site registration to cater to voters in preparation for next year’s local election.

“Our main office in Manila has required us to conduct a satellite registration to reach out to sectors like persons with disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens and first time voters who do not give attention to registration. The point is for them to be able to participate and exercise their right of suffrage,” Sayno said.

Sayno said they are the ones going out to barangays instead of waiting for them to come to the Comelec office.

The mobile registration in Arevalo, Molo and Mandurriao districts has been completed. Comelec, as a strategy, clusters smaller barangays into one venue for the registration.

However, a separate registration is held in barangays with prospects of bigger voters.

“In every district, we have five venues for the registration,” he said.

From August 29 until September 7, the registration will cater to barangays in the City Proper district and September 8-15 for La Paz district.

Meanwhile, a two-day registration will be held for male inmates at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Ungka and female inmates in General Luna this September 17-18.

The last week of registration from September 19 to 29 will be at the Robinsons Place Iloilo.

“September 29 is the last day of registration. Based on our calendar of activities, this is part of our pre-election activities prior we go to the proper calendar of activities,” he said.

The registration caters to new registration, reactivation, correction of entries, change of status and transfer of registration record.

The Comelec attends to an average of 300 clients daily.

Sayno urged voters not to wait for the deadline and visit the Comelec to rectify errors should or changes in their voting registration record for them to be able to participate in the 2019 elections. (PNA)
