MANILA -- Telco giant Globe Telecom has deployed more Long-Term Evolution (LTE) sites across the country amid continuing upgrades and expansion of its network to address subscriber demand for data services.

Globe said it has installed an additional 1,752 LTE sites carrying the 700 megahertz (MHz) and 2600 MHz frequency bands during the first half of the year. To date, the telco has more than 26,200 4G sites, of which 12,000 are LTE sites across the country.

“We are on course to fulfill our commitment of deploying LTE services to 95 percent of municipalities nationwide by the end of 2018,” Joel Agustin, Globe Senior Vice President for Program Governance of the Network Technology Group, said in a statement Tuesday.

Globe’s mobile data traffic has increased by 40 percent with 390 petabytes from January to June this year compared with the 280 petabytes in the same period last year driven by the increase in subscriber usage of smartphones to access the Internet, video streaming services and online games.

The telco’s revenues in mobile services reached PHP51.6 billion for the first six months of 2018. Its mobile subscriber base totaled 65 million as of end June 2018 increasing by 9 percent from the 59.7 million subscribers in the same period last year.

Globe has also increased its capital expenditures for the year from USD850 million to USD950 million, which will be allocated for upgrading its fixed and mobile networks. It is likewise eyeing to roll out 5G technology by the second quarter of 2019. (Globe PR)
