MANILA -- The public may still indulge in a free movie marathon at the Cinematheque Centre Manila until Sept. 10 as the Argentine Film Festival ends Monday.

As the Argentine Embassy in Manila celebrates the 4th Argentine Film Festival in the Philippines, the films will be shown for free on a "first come, first served" basis from Sept. 7 to September 10.

On Saturday beginning 3 p.m., the films "To Fool a Thief" (Vino Para Robar) and "The Inseparables" are scheduled for showing. On Sunday, the movies "The Last Elvis" (El Ultimo Elvis) and "The Showroom" will be shown at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.

According to the embassy, the festival seeks to bring Filipino audiences closer to Argentina’s culture and creativity through cinema, as they put into spotlight themes on family, friends, acquaintances, and dreams, for this year's edition.

With the same venue and schedule, the films "I Married a Dumbass" (Me Case con un Boludo) and "To Fool a Thief" (Vino Para Robar) will be presented on the last day of the fest on Monday.

According to the embassy, these movies will also be available for film enthusiasts in Davao and Iloilo at the Cinematheque Centres in their areas.

In a recent interview, Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) Chairman Liza Diño said the Argentine Embassy in Manila is eyeing to ink a cooperation agreement on film with the council.

"We discussed how to have exchange programs where Argentine filmmakers can come to the country and will have immersion on Philippine cinema and Philippine film industry, in the same way, that we have local filmmakers that can be hosted in Argentina," she said

Diño said Argentine Ambassador to the Philippines José Néstor Ureta is talking “about opportunities where we can collaborate.”

“There's so much that we can learn from the different film industries of different countries, especially those who really give priority to production value and whose films we can really identify with," she said.

According to Diño, Argentina's offer of this kind of partnership "is a step towards a more strengthened cause to champion the two countries' culture through film." (PNA)
