MANILA -- Nissan Philippines, Inc. managed in August 2018 to post its highest monthly sales despite challenging times for the country's motor vehicle industry due to a steep hike in excise taxes effective this year.

Nissan Philippines reported Wednesday that the company sold a total of 4,500 units last month, its highest monthly sales since 2000.

Month-on-month sales likewise surged by 104-percent from 2,869 units in July 2018.

“The strong sales performance is the result of a diligent focus on customer service and a strategic product portfolio that meets the requirements of the Filipinos,” said Nissan Philippines Managing Director Ramesh Narasimhan.

“The positive reception of the new Nissan Terra is testament to this. We remain committed to exceeding (the) expectations of our customers and the market,” Narasimhan added.

Aside from Nissan Terra, which accounted for 21 percent of last month’s sales, Nissan Navara has also driven the car company’s performance in August.

Moreover, Nissan remains positive on sales for the remainder of the year, as it is set to open at least five new showrooms by yearend.

Nissan now overtakes Ford for the third position in the local car industry. (PNA)
