MANILA -- With the popularity of Korean pop music in the country, the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in Manila is now seeking to strengthen promotion of its traditional music in the Philippines.
During the recent KCC-led cultural night in Taguig City, Director Lee Jincheol said South Korea is committed to its mission to promote their culture in the Philippines. "KCC seeks to coordinate with the Philippines to promote its traditional music," he said.
Lee expects that 2019 would be a busy year for the institution as they will be bringing more exhibitions, film production, Korean orchestra, and K-pop concerts in the country.
Among others, the two nations will also mark its 70th year of diplomatic ties.
Last December 18, KCC hosted the Guerilla K-Night, dubbed as "a night of Korean and Filipino Culture celebration."
In giving thanks to those who joined the event, Lee noted that Korean culture has been embedded in the Filipino culture and has also influenced the Filipino people themselves in many ways.
Among the performers in the Guerilla K-Night were UHEE, a Korean traditional contemporary group known for traditional percussion music, Arena 2018 International Urban Dance Experience champion, “Aftermath,” and 2018 Pinoy K-pop Star vocal category 2nd prize winner Paul Manuel.
