Iligan's 'silent assassin' takes on Davao pug for IBF title

DAVAO CITY -- Undefeated Samuel “Silent Assassin” Salva of Iligan City will take on Rene Mark Cuarto of Davao City for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) world minimumweight title on March 23 at the Midas Hotel and Casino in Pasay City.

Salva, 22, has 16 straight wins with 10 knockouts including four wins last year.

In his last fight, he scored a technical knockout on Jason Mopon in the 7th round last November 25, 2018 in Iligan. He knocked out Marco John Rementizo in the 1st round to win the Mindanao Professional Boxing Federation (MinProba) minimumweight title last October 15, 2017 in Robinsons Place Iligan.

Meanwhile, Cuarto, 22, also has 16 wins including nine knockouts with one loss and one draw.

He won the vacant World Boxing Organisation Oriental minimumweight title over Clyde Azarcon by a unanimous decision last August 21, 2018.

Cuarto knocked out Rodel Tejares in the 3rd round last March 25, 2018 in Gaisano Mall Toril.

The Salva-Cuarto bout is one of the double main events presented by the MP Promotion.

The other main event is featuring the IBF world bantamweight championship between Michael Dasmarinas of Valenzuela City against Kenny Demecillo of Cebu City. (PNA)
