CAVITE CITY, Cavite -- An executive of Manila's first boutique airline on Friday expressed support for the government plan to develop and use the Sangley Point airport for general aviation and domestic flights.

In an interview with the Philippine News Agency (PNA), Skyjet President Dino Reyes Chua said his company is joining Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific and Air Asia in supporting the development of Sangley Point.

"We are happy and excited that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte chose to develop Sangley Airport for our domestic flights," said Chua, also a politician in Noveleta, Cavite.

The executive also praised government efforts to decongest air traffic at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), which would benefit domestic flights as a whole.

Department of Transporation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur P. Tugade has ordered the hiring of additional manpower to expedite the airport’s completion and hasten the acquisition of additional equipment for the Sangley airport’s scheduled opening in November.

Duterte on Monday ordered the DoTr to immediately start operating the Sangley gateway for general aviation, or non-commercial flights, to help decongest NAIA following his visit and ocular inspections at the airport. (PNA)
