Bacolod's 'King Arthur' to fight France's Oubaali for WBC title

DAVAO CITY – “King Arthur” Villanueva of Bacolod City will challenge World Boxing Council (WBC) world bantamweight champion Nordine Oubaali of France on July 6 at Barys Arena in Nur-Sultan (Astana), Kazakhstan.

The 30-year-old Villanueva who holds a record of 32 wins, 3 losses, and 18 knockouts settled for a majority draw with compatriot Carlo Demecillo during a Cebu bout on November 24.

He also TKO’d Taguig’s Renren Tesorio in the 7th round of the June 29, 2018 event held in Maasin City.

Villanueva twice knocked out Mexico’s Juan Jimenez in Bacolod to win the vacant WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight title in 2018 and a rematch in Carson, California.

He lost to Zolani Tete of South Africa by a unanimous decision for the interim WBO world bantamweight title.

The 32-year-old Oubaali (15W-0L, 11KO), on the other hand, won the vacant WBC world bantamweight title by a unanimous decision over Rau’shee Warren of the United States on Jan. 19, 2019 in Las Vegas. (PNA)
