4 shot, 2 arrested in Toronto Raptors victory parade

WASHINGTON -- Four people were shot and wounded and two more were arrested at a rally celebrating the Toronto Raptors' first NBA championship on Monday, local police said.

Numerous Raptors fans ran from the shooting on the City Hall square, which was packed with tens of thousands of people.

Earlier on Monday, over one million fans packed downtown Toronto for a parade, leading to safety concerns amid overcrowding.

Toronto Police chief Mark Saunders said officers had recovered two firearms.

During a speech from one of the team owners, rally organizers interrupted proceedings to alert the crowd to an emergency and asked for calm.

The Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors in Game Six to win the 2019 NBA Finals at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California on June 13. (Xinhua)
