Pinoy boxer loses to Japanese foe for WBO title

DAVAO CITY – Filipino Aston Palicte lost by a technical knockout in the 10th round to Kazuto Ioka of Japan in their vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) World super flyweight title on Wednesday at the Makuhan Messe in Chiba City, Japan.

It was Palicte’s third setback against 25 wins and 1 draw. The 30-year-old Ioka improved his record to 24 wins with 14 knockouts and two losses.

Ioka bounced back from a recent loss to Donnie Nietes of Cebu by a split decision in their battle for the vacant WBO World super flyweight title on Dec. 31, 2018.

Meanwhile, Hiroto Kyoguchi of Japan retained his WBA Super World light flyweight title by beating Tanawat Nakoon of Thailand by a unanimous decision.

Miyo “Mushasi” Yoshida of Japan beat Casey “Lady Hawaiian Punch” Morton of USA by a unanimous decision to win the vacant WBO World female super flyweight title.

The fights were promoted by Hitoshi Watanabe of Watanabe Promotions. (PNA)
