MANILA – The percentage of severe and critical Covid-19 cases in hospitals is increasing but still within the threshold, the Department of Health reported Tuesday.

During the past four weeks, DOH data showed that severe and critical infections comprised over 9 percent of hospital admissions.

“We confirm that the number or percentage of the severe and critical infections had been noted to be increasing for these past weeks,” Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, DOH Officer-in-Charge, said in a media forum.

Ito pong severe and critical infections kapag tiningnan sa kabuan, ‘di naman lumalagpas doon sa 10 percent na threshold or 1,000 na number ng cases na threshold (When we look at these severe and critical infections as a whole, they are not over 10 percent or the 1,000 cases threshold),” she added.

On Monday, the DOH reported 811 severe and critical cases or 9.7 percent of the total Covid-19 admissions in hospitals.

Sixty percent of the cases are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, Vergeire said.

The DOH, through the “PinasLakas” campaign, aims to lower the number of severe and critical cases in hospitals through vaccination.

To date, a total of 159,376,952 Covid-19 vaccines have already been administered.

A total of 71,880,074 are already fully vaccinated and 16,563,542 have received booster shots. (PNA)
