PH detects 889 new cases of Omicron BA.5 subvariant

MANILA – The country has detected 889 more cases of the Omicron BA.5 subvariant of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the Department of Health (DOH) reported Wednesday.

In a Viber message to reporters, the DOH said 886 of the total cases are from all regions while the remaining three are returning overseas Filipinos.

Of the 886 infections, about 211 are from Western Visayas, 126 from the National Capital Region (NCR), 111 from Central Luzon, 74 from Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), 74 from Bicol Region, 60 from Calabarzon, 50 from Central Visayas, 38 from Ilocos Region, 33 from Cagayan Valley, 28 from Mimaropa, 25 from Soccsksargen, 24 from Zamboanga Peninsula, 15 from CARAGA, and two from Davao Region.

There were also 16 additional BA.4 cases – four from Soccsksargen, two each from Ilocos Region, Bicol Region, Central Visayas and NCR, and one each from Central Luzon, Western Visayas, Calabarzon, and CAR.

The DOH also detected four cases of BA.2.12.1 and two cases of BA.2.75.

The four BA.2.12.1 cases are from Cagayan Valley, Zamboanga Peninsula, Calabarzon and Mimaropa.

Meantime, the two BA.2.75 are from Western Visayas and Central Visayas.

All the reported cases are based on the latest genome sequencing results from Aug. 26 to 29. (PNA)
