CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – Several local government units (LGUs) in Central Luzon on Thursday declared the suspension of afternoon classes in all levels for both private and public schools due to moderate to occasionally heavy rains brought by the low pressure area and northeast monsoon.
Pampanga Gov. Dennis Pineda declared the cancellation of classes as well as work in government offices in this province.
“In coordination with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), suspension of work in government offices and classes at all levels in public and private schools is deemed to be in the best interest of all concerned,” Pineda said in his executive order.
However, he said that frontline and key offices and other emergency responders and hospitals are ordered to continue with their operations and render the necessary services to the people.
The city governments of San Fernando and Angeles likewise issued similar executive orders due to continuous rains.
Other LGUs in this province that canceled afternoon classes were Minalin, Apalit and Masantol.
In Bulacan, Governor Daniel Fernando ordered the early dismissal of elementary and high school classes.
The towns of Bocaue, Norzagaray, Sta. Maria, Doña Remedios Trinidad and the City of Malolos likewise suspended afternoon classes at all levels.
In Tarlac, the town of Capas also declared the cancellation of classes at all levels in both private and public schools.
PAGASA said a yellow warning for heavy rainfall was raised over most parts of Central Luzon, covering six of the seven provinces -- Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga and Bulacan.
Only the province of Aurora was not included in the PAGASA advisory. (PNA)
