P60-M illegal drugs seized, over 600 nabbed in 6 months in Bicol

LEGAZPI CITY – The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) has seized some PHP58.9-million worth of illegal drugs and nabbed 669 drug personalities from 541 operations drug operations conducted by different police units during the first semester of 2023.

"Out of the 669 drug personalities, 610 cases were already filed in court," said Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib, PRO-5 spokesperson, in an interview on Thursday.

She said that seized illegal drugs include 8,654.51 grams of shabu and 312.17 grams of marijuana.

"These seizures not only represent a significant blow to the illegal drug trade but also highlight the vigilance and effectiveness of law enforcement in intercepting and removing dangerous substances from circulation," Calubaquib added.

She said the operational accomplishments of the unit have equally emphasized the importance of information campaigns.

"PRO-5 combined efforts have resulted in significant strides toward eradicating the drug trade in the region. The relentless drive, reinforced by successful operations and comprehensive public engagement, demonstrates the unit’s determination to create a safer and drug-free environment for the Bicolanos," she said.
