MANILA – An election watchdog group has supported the proposal of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to come up with a new list of registered voters.

Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) national coordinator Arwin Serrano said they support the proposal which aims to get rid of double/multiple registrants and ghost voters.

"I think that that proposal is okay. It (proposal) has a good end goal," he said in an interview on Thursday.

The PPCRV official also supported the appeal of poll body chairman George Garcia for a law to be passed by Congress to conduct a general registration.

"If there is an enabling law, it will be more accepted by the people," Serrano added.

Earlier, Garcia said they are looking to have the country's entire voters’ list annulled after the May 2025 polls.

The poll body is planning to hold a general registration of voters before the 2028 elections. (PNA)
