MANILA – Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa visited Eastern Visayas hospitals over the weekend to check on the facilities in line with the agency’s 8-point Action Agenda, and to ensure “their facilities are not left behind.”

The Department of Health (DOH), in a news release on Tuesday, said Herbosa was accompanied by Health Undersecretary Maria Francia Laxamana, among others, during the two-day “Bagong Pilipinas” (New Philippines) campaign last August 26-27, 2023.

"Our visit to these facilities highlighted the need to check and improve on the services offered to the nearby communities," Herbosa said.

The DOH team visited the Biliran Provincial Hospital (BPH) to check on the health facilities and equipment augmented to the provincial hospital. The group likewise checked the new BPH under construction.

They also visited the DOH-Treatment and Rehabilitation Center-Dulag and the Eastern Visayas Medical Center (EVMC), wherein the team talked with department heads to know their best practices, innovations, and operational difficulties, and to give instructions on how to improve strategies in maintaining the quality of service delivery.

They also went to Gov. Benjamin T. Romualdez General Hospital and Schistosomiasis Center, the only Schistosomiasis Research Center in the country.

“This (the campaign) also gave us the opportunity to better coordinate with the hospital staff and ensure that their facilities are not left behind," Herbosa added. (PNA)
