MANILA – Low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific (CEB) will resume operations to and from Cotabato Airport beginning Oct. 1.

In a post on its Facebook page, CEB said it was able to complete a thorough and satisfactory safety assessment of the airport's runway, after examinations and repairs by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

“We welcome the reopening of the Cotabato Airport to commercial jet aircraft and congratulate the CAAP in upgrading the operations to ensure safe, affordable, and reliable flights for travelers," CEB president Xander Lao said in a statement.

Earlier, the CAAP said the uneven runways at the Cotabato Airport pose potential hazards and compromise the safety of travelers.

Cotabato Airport's Runway 10/28 had been closed to commercial operations since June for asphalt overlay and repainting of markings.

Partial operations resumed in August.

Flight operations were reportedly allowed from 7 a.m. to 11:59 a.m. and for private and military airplanes only.

Meanwhile, flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) will also resume flights to Cotabato starting Oct. 1.

Daily flights will be offered between Manila and Cotabato, while flights between Cotabato and Cebu are every Monday and Thursday.

Twice weekly flights between Cotabato and Tawi-Tawi are also scheduled every Monday and Thursday, PAL said. (PNA)
