Angat Dam continues water release after breaching normal high level

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan – For the second straight day on Friday, Angat Dam released water into its downstream river system after its water elevation exceeded the normal high of 212 meters.

Josephine Salazar, National Irrigation Administration-Central Luzon director, said the water elevation as of 11 a.m. Friday was at 212.78 meters or 0.78 meters above its normal high level.

Angat Dam is releasing water at 61.5 cubic meters per second into the river system that passes through Ipo Dam and Bustos Dam.

Bustos Dam is responsible for the irrigation supply to ricelands in Bulacan and parts of Pampanga.

"The public is advised to stay away from the Angat River during the spilling operations,” Col. Manuel Lukban (ret.), Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office chief, said in a statement.

He said excess water from Angat Dam flowing to Ipo Dam and then Bustos Dam is discharged into Manila Bay. (PNA)
