DAVAO CITY – This city’s Central 911 has been inducted into the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council's Hall of Fame during the 22nd Gawad KALASAG (KAlamidad at Sakuna LAbanan, SAriling GAling ang Kaligtasan).

In an interview Tuesday, Baloran, chief of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) chief Alfredo Baloran said the Special Awards for the Best Government Emergency Management Response Team Category is significant in boosting the morale of responders who work round-the-clock to deliver efficient emergency services.

The Gawad KALASAG is the highest award for local government units that have shown notable disaster risk reduction and management response, as well as humanitarian assistance programs.

Baloran noted that the city has won the award several times in the past, making it the first local government unit in the Philippines to have been inducted into the Hall of Fame.

“This is a prestigious award, since it is the first time that (there is) a Hall of Famer in the government emergency response services award from the National Risk Reduction and Management Council. This is a huge honor for Davao City,” Baloran said.

Meanwhile, the Human Resource and Management Office and the Davao City Hall Employees Association also recognized the efforts of the CDRRMO's Central 911 Urban Search and Rescue Team in the recovery efforts in landslide-hit Barangay Masara in Maco, Davao de Oro.

“In recognition of your heroic service and bravery, dedication, and unwavering commitment to public service as a member of the Davao City Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Central 911 during the six-day rescue and retrieval operations in Barangay Masara, Maco, Davao de Oro,” the certificate reads.
