MANILA – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has again surpassed its collection target for February, after recording a surplus of PHP4.393 billion.

Preliminary data as of Tuesday showed the bureau has exceeded last month’s target after collecting PHP70.601 billion, exceeding its PHPP66.207 billion target.

Last month's figures also surpassed the BOC's PHP63.015 billion collection in February last year.

Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio attributed the surge in BOC collection, including the agency's higher assessment rate due to the improved system of determining the customs value of imported goods.

Through enhanced strategies and technological advancements, the BOC has optimized its procedures and trade facilitation efforts.

“We remain committed to our mission of excellence, fiscal responsibility, and service to the Filipino people. As we continue to innovate and adapt to evolving challenges, the BOC is poised to achieve even greater milestones in the future,” Rubio added.

Earlier in February, the agency participated in the World Customs Organization Regional Intelligence Liaison Office for Asia and the Pacific, reflecting the bureau's drive to further strengthen its anti-smuggling capabilities.

The BOC aims to raise PHP1 trillion in revenues for this year. (PNA)
