125th-ranked Nardi shocks world no.1 Djokovic in Indian Wells

ANKARA – Italian tennis player Luca Nardi shocked Serbian legend Novak Djokovic in the Indian Wells men's round 3 on Monday.

The 125th-ranked Italian, who upset the world No. 1 with 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 sets became the lowest-ranked player to ever beat Djokovic at a Masters 1000 or Grand Slam event.

"I’m speechless," Nardi said. "What can I say? Yesterday night I was dreaming about it, I was speaking with the coaches and dreaming about – now it’s real!"

Djokovic, who has not secured the Indian Wells title since 2016, said, "Congrats to him for particularly in the third set playing some great, great tennis. He got in as a Lucky Loser to the main draw, so he really didn't have anything to lose, he played great and deserved to win."

The 36-year-old Serbian has so far bagged 24 grand slam titles. (Anadolu)
