MANILA – The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has deported American Lee O’Brian, the former partner of Filipino comedienne Marietta Subong, popularly known as Pokwang.
In a statement Thursday, BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said O’Brian was deported on Monday night onboard a Philippine Airlines flight to San Francisco, California after they confirmed that he has no pending case in the country.
The actress filed a deportation case against O'Brian last year for working without proper permits.
In her complaint, Subong claimed that O’Brian rendered work in different production companies without securing the required Department of Labor and Employment and BI permits.
The BI found merit in Subong's case and ordered O’Brian's deportation in December last year for violation of the conditions of his stay. The foreigner filed a motion for reconsideration, which was eventually denied.
O'Brian has been included in the BI’s blacklist, barring any future attempts to reenter the country.
Meanwhile, the BI also reported the interception of three foreign sex offenders who were barred from entering the country at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for being undesirable aliens.
The three passengers were intercepted at the NAIA Terminal 1 in Parañaque City upon their arrival last week.
Jeffrey William Jewitt, 42, was denied entry on April 5 upon his arrival aboard a Korean Airlines flight from Incheon, South Korea.
Information from the BI’s border control and intelligence unit (BCIU) showed the foreigner was convicted of sex offenses in 2012 by a court in Illinois.
He was convicted on two counts of child abduction and sexually luring a 16-year-old girl and one count of sexual exploitation of a 12-year-old child.
On April 7, American Charles David James Weatherall, 32, was refused entry after he arrived via an Air China flight from Beijing.
The BI-BCIU said Weatherall was convicted of child pornography for possessing indecent images of children in the United Kingdom.
On April 8, American Momodu Wurie Jalloh, 28, was turned away after arriving aboard a Saudia Airlines flight from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The BI-International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) unit said Momodu was convicted in Virginia of aggravated sexual assault due to incapacitation where the victim is a 21-year-old woman.
Tansingco said the three aliens have been placed on the immigration blacklist.
Under Philippine immigration laws, aliens convicted of crimes involving moral turpitude are automatically barred from entering the country. (PNA)
