MANILA – Several areas in the Visayas and Mindanao will experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the easterlies, the weather bureau said Tuesday.

These areas include Soccsksargen, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental, Samar, Northern Samar and Eastern Samar.

Moderate to heavy rain showers in those areas could also result in flash floods or landslides, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

The rest of the country is expected to experience isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

While other parts of the country will be having rain showers, 24 areas will be experiencing high heat index levels.

Heat index of 42 °C to 46 °C are forecast in these areas: NAIA; Science Garden, Quezon City; Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Bacnotan, La Union; Aparri, Cagayan; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Echague, Isabela; Iba, Zambales; Clark Airport, Pampanga; Baler, Aurora; Sangley Point, Cavite; Infanta, Quezon; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Puerto Princesa, Palawan; Aborlan, Palawan; Legazpi City, Albay; Virac, Catanduanes; Masbate City, Masbate; Juban, Sorsogon; CBSU-Pili, Camarines Sur; Mambusao, Capiz; Iloilo City, Iloilo; Dumangas, Iloilo; Catarman, Northern Samar; and Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

Heat index is what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air.

At 41 °C to 51 °C heat indices (danger level), heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely. Continued exposure to the sun could also cause heat stroke.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas continue to prevail across the archipelago. (PNA)
