Central Visayas wage board OKs P500 increase for ‘kasambahay’

MANILA – The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board in Region VII (RTWPB-Central Visayas Region) has approved the increase of the monthly minimum wage of domestic workers (kasambahay) by PHP500, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reported on Friday.

In a statement, the DOLE said the RTWPB-7, in Wage Order No. ROVII-DW-04 dated April 18, 2024, moto proprio approved the increase in the monthly salary of kasambahay in the region.

It noted that the monthly wage rate for chartered cities and first-class municipalities in the region will now be PHP6,000, and PHP5,000 for other municipalities.

Currently, the wage for chartered cities, first-class municipalities and other municipalities is at PHP5,500 and PHP4,500, respectively.

The DOLE added that 107,931 domestic workers – approximately 14 percent (15,099) are on live-in arrangements – are expected to benefit from the wage adjustment.

Before the adjustment, RTWPB-7 conducted two separate public hearings for employers and kasambahay on April 7, 2024 to consult them on the proposed increase in the minimum wage of domestic workers.

The order was published on April 25, 2024 and shall take effect after 15 days from its publication or on May 11, 2024.

The last wage order for domestic workers in the region was on June 14, 2022. (PNA)
