MANILA – The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) announced on Tuesday that its 6,918 members and pensioners in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna could now avail of the emergency loan program after the city was placed under a state of calamity due to a pertussis outbreak.

Pertussis is a respiratory disease caused by bacteria and is transmitted through coughing or sneezing.

The GSIS said the loan program is available until May 24 for qualified active members living or working, as well as old-age and disability pensioners in Sta. Rosa City.

"Members and pensioners with current emergency loans may borrow up to PHP40,000 to settle previous loan balances and ensure a maximum net amount of PHP20,000. Those without any outstanding emergency loan, may apply for a PHP20,000 loan," a news release from GSIS read.

"The loan carries a 6-percent interest rate and a three-year payment term," it added.

GSIS assured that applicants could avail of the loan anytime and anywhere through the GSIS Touch mobile app, provided they meet specific eligibility criteria, including a net take-home pay of at least PHP5,000 after deductions.

Pensioners could also qualify as long as their resulting net basic monthly pension after loan availment is at least 25 percent of their pension.

Around PHP178 million was allocated by the state pension fund for its Sta. Rosa members. (PNA)
