COTABATO CITY – Police authorities said they are tracking down a gunman who shot dead a police officer on duty at the town public market of Parang, Maguindanao del Norte on Thursday morning.

Maj. Christopher Cabugwang, town police chief, identified the slain police officer as Capt. Roland Moralde, who is assigned with the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) based in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Cabugwang said Moralde accosted a man, identified only as “Pogi,” for carrying a firearm while inside the public market at about 10 a.m.

The suspect drew a pistol and shot Moralde at close range before fleeing.

“Manhunt operations are going on,” Cabugwang said.

More police checkpoints and foot patrols were immediately carried out in the town’s strategic areas to catch the killer. (PNA)
