LEGAZPI CITY--- A total of 674 Bicolanos will be joining the workforce very soon after the two-day Labor Day Jobs Fair at Legazpi City Pacific Mall and LCC Mall in Naga City on May 1-2.

Johana Gasga, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Bicol regional spokesperson based here, said Thursday that the jobs fair results recorded some 508 near hired-on-the-spot applicants for local employment and 16 for overseas employment, while 166 were listed as hired-on-the-spot with a total tally of 674 applicants foreseen to be having their own jobs very soon.

"Near hires are job applicants who were considered hired but need to submit additional or lacking requirements, or may need to attend further interviews or exams," Gasga added.

Rovelinda Dela Rosa, DOLE assistant regional director in a phone interview on Thursday said, “The jobs fair was a success! We are very happy that some of the employers are willing to put-up Human Resources recruitment office of their companies because of the positive working attitude and pleasing personalities of Bicolanos".

With 674, it means that these families will get the chance to have a better life by having jobs and they will be added to the workforce in the region, Dela Rosa added.

Jazpher Daria, a fresh graduate from Bicol University who applied in COMWORKS Company, was among the near hired-on-the-spot.

Daria said he is very happy that after graduation he can now help his parent and earn something for his own needs.

"Thank you DOLE for this opportunity, I'm lucky and fortunate since not everyone was hired-on-the-spot", Daria added.

With these numbers, DOLE Bicol is confident in saying that a jobs fair is still the best program the DOLE has in terms of job placement.

“For sure, this will not be the last job fair for this year, we are expecting June 12 job fair and other activities and programs of DOLE that will help Bicolanos job seekers” Dela Rosa added. (with reports from Christian Alejo/PNA OJT)
