280 hired on the spot in DOLE Independence Day jobs fair

ZAMBOANGA CITY--The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said a total of 280 job seekers were hired on the spot during its Independence Day “Trabaho, Negosyo at Kabuhayan (Job, Business and Livelihood) fair in this city.

Karen Grafia, DOLE regional information officer, on Wednesday told the Philippine News Agency that 232 of the 280 individuals hired on the spot were for local positions and 48 for overseas employment.

For local hires, the jobs include retail services, customer representatives, and service crews. Most of the jobs for overseas employment were related to the construction industry.

Grafia said there were also 100 job seekers listed as “near hire”, or those who need to undergo further interview, submit additional documentary requirements and take examination prior to hiring.

She said that 1,204 job seekers have registered during the Job, Business and Livelihood fair on Tuesday.

There were 13,407 vacancies that were up for grabs during the activity, which was participated by 33 employers and employment agencies.

Of the total vacancies, 11,036 job vacancies for overseas employment and the remaining 2,371 for local employment.

Eleven of the 33 employment agencies are overseas placement agencies and the other 22 were local employers. (PNA)
