MANILA -- Alex Cabagnot was slapped with a PHP20,000 fine after an apparent hit on RJ Jazul's groin was upgraded upon review of a Flagrant Foul Penalty 2 in Game 4 of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals between San Miguel and Phoenix.

During a dead ball situation late in the second quarter of the said game on Tuesday night at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay, Cabagnot appeared to have given Jazul a cheap shot at his groin, sparking an altercation that saw Alex Mallari getting sent off and Matt Rosser getting a technical foul.

Initially, the referee did not slap Cabagnot with a flagrant foul, but the review made on Wednesday corrected the missed call and handed him the FFP2.

However, the league spared Cabagnot of further penalties for the reason that the referee initially made a non-call.

"Since no call was made by the referee on Cabagnot, the Technical Committee is without any mandate to review such incident during the actual game," the PBA said in a statement.

The league added, "The present policy is that a referee's call can be reviewed under certain circumstances. A non-call cannot be reviewed. The exception is the review of a goal tending violation. Moreover, the Technical Committee cannot, as a rule, substitute or override a referee's decision." (PNA)
