Skippers try to stay in PBA D-League Foundation Cup playoff race

MANILA -- Marinerong Pilipino makes its last stand in the 2019 PBA D-League when it faces Perpetual on Tuesday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

The Skippers need a victory in the 2 p.m. tiff against the Altas to keep themselves in the Foundation Cup playoff race.

"At least yung chance nandyan pa. Kailangan na lang nating makuha ito dahil yung chance, wala na sa kamay namin," (At least the chance remains there. We just to get this win because our chance is no longer in our hands),” said coach Yong Garcia after his side's 88-85 overtime win over Metropac-San Beda last Thursday behind Santi Santillan, Mike Ayonayon, and Jhonard Clarito.

Sitting at an even 4-4, Marinerong Pilipino's victory won't guarantee anything as it only puts the pressure on FEU to triumph over CEU on May 23 for the chase for the fourth spot.

A loss though would automatically eliminate the Skippers from contention, something Perpetual coach Frankie Lim wants to accomplish.

Meanwhile, Centro Escolar University (6-1) closes in on clinching the top seed in the Foundation Group when it battles Wangs Basketball (3-5) at 4 p.m.

"We need to toughen up and learn how to be a better team," said coach Derrick Pumaren as he banks on Maodo Malick Diouf, Judel Fuentes, and Keanu Caballero to get things done for the Scorpions. (PR)
